Expo 2020, along with giving a pedestal to the pioneers of innovation and development around the world, has also shone the spotlight on the young talents of the United Arab Emirates. The Expo 2020 Young Stars Initiative began parallel to the launch of Expo 2020 in October of 2021 and has since given a stage to several UAE schools and its students to showcase their talents.

This initiative, according to the Young Stars’ Operation Coordinator Emma, incited many youths to take active part in cultural activities and not just focus on academical success.

“Many students have a knack for the performing arts or fine arts but this is not recognized sometimes because they are tied down to books and more books. This program was aimed to help these children realize where their specialty lies.”, Emma went on to say.

The Expo 2020 hosted multiple schools on the Young Stars platform and staged several diverse performances from each school, ranging from folk choir, dance recital and tableau to instrumental recital, orchestra and musicals.

One of the biggest performances that took place on this platform was a 20-minute musical by GEMS New Millennium School, Al Khail. This Dubai-based Indian school put on an engaging show that represented a modern and realistic twist to fairy tale classics. Performed at the Al Wasl Dome, the school had an audience of over 500 people, making it one of the most extravagant school shows in the season.

“I really got to see my kid shine on such a big stage. It brought tears to my eyes when I was seeing her up there. She looked like a proper actor,” said Sonali Bhaumik, mother of one of the students, Jovita Bhaumik.

The Young Stars Initiative will last till March 31st and will continue to host more schools from across the UAE. Tickets to Expo 2020 can be purchased on https://www.expo2020dubai.com/ .
